CHU4UHC OVERVIEW

Community Health Units for Universal Health Coverage (CHU4UHC) is a coalition of community health partners in Kenya working to advance primary and community health supported by Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Foundation and Elma Foundation, in support of the government’s commitment to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC). FAH is an integral part of a global movement focused on centering communities in health decision-making and to professionalize community health promoters (CHPs) as the backbone of the health system. For many years, our coalition has been reinforcing the same message in Kenya: pay CHPs, give them the tools, training, and support to do their jobs well and include community priorities when designing and implementing health initiatives.

The CHU4UHC coalition, made up of 26 organizations, has enabled community health-focused partners in Kenya to collaborate on a single strategy and target resources toward a shared vision of professionalizing CHPs, strengthening community voice, and ensuring Afya Nyumbani – the delivery of high-quality community health services to all households in Kenya.

FINANCING ALLIANCE FOR HEALTH OVERVIEW

This approach will empower/ enable them to be the lead stewards in their local health systems to reach the scale and sustainability that is needed and ultimately achieve universal health coverage.
