What is Two Factor Authentication?

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a security process that requires two distinct forms of identification to verify a user's identity before granting access to an account or system. This method enhances security by combining two of the following factors:

  1. Something you know: A password or PIN.
  2. Something you have: A physical device like a smartphone, security token, or a code sent via SMS.
  3. Something you are: Biometric data such as a fingerprint, facial recognition, or retina scan

By requiring two different forms of identification, 2FA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access, even if one factor (like a password) is compromised.
